The BCCI announced a 16-member Indian squad with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returning to the T20I squad. Rohit will lead the side in the absence of Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav who are missing the series due to injury concerns. Several senior players like Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj have been rested from this series.
Players like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan too are not a part of this T20I squad. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are the two specialist keepers in the squad. Kishan being rested in this T20I series has surprised the Indian cricket fraternity as well.
India are still unbeaten across formats against Afghanistan are will aim to continue their winning streak. Heading into this series, India is to the ICC T20I rankings and Afghanistan are placed tenth.

Rohit will open the batting for India. The first T20I will be his 149th T20I for the national team. The Indian skipper with 3853 runs is the second-highest run-scorer in T20Is for the hosts. The Indian skipper will play his first T20I since the T20 World Cup 2022.
